Pereskia is named after Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc, a 16th-century French botanist. It is a small genus with four species identified only. Regarding physical appearance, Pereskia plants do not look like other types of cacti, as they have substantial leaves and non-succulent stems. Because of its physical appearance, Pereskia is also commonly called “Rose Cactus.”
