“Pediocactus” Genus Cacti Pediocactus comes from the Greek term “pedion,” meaning “plain.” It is also commonly called “hedgehog cacti.” Currently, this genus has six to eleven identified species. Pediocactus is found exclusively in North Mexico. This genus is considered rare and prized as collector’s pieces. Regarding physical appearance, Pediocactus are small globose plants with pink, white, or yellow flowers and fleshy fruit.
