“Ferocactus” Genus

Ferocactus Genus Image

Ferocactus comes from the Latin word “ferox,” meaning “fierce,” and the Greek word “kaktos,” meaning “thistle.” This genus is also known as “The Traveler’s Friend.” Ferocactus is native to the Southwestern United States and Mexico. Ferocactus plants are barrel-shaped with prominent spines and small flowers. This genus’s natural habitat is extremely hot and exploited.
