“Coryphantha” Genus Cacti Coryphantha comes from the Greek word “koryphe” meaning “crown” and “anthos” meaning “flower”. Coryphantha is also commonly called the “beehive cactus”. This genus is known to have spherical plants that have hollowed tubercles instead of ribs. Coryphantha is native to Central America, Northern Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Montana. This genus is known to be one of the genera with large species, by two subgenera, fifty-seven species, and twenty subspecies.
