“Cleistocactus” Genus Cacti Cleistocactus comes from the Greek word “Cleistos” meaning “closed”. This genus got its name as its flowers seldom fully open. Cleistocactus is known in South America, mostly growing in large shrubby clumps. In terms of physical appearance, this genus has small and flexible spines. Many of its flowers look like little tubes of lipstick or firecrackers. If taken care of properly, Cleistocactus flowers might last for a year.
